Jon S. Wheeler

Jon S. Wheeler, Chairman & CEO


Jon Wheeler is a real estate executive with 33 years of experience who serves as Chairman & CEO of Wheeler Real Estate Investment Trust (“REIT”) and President & CEO of Wheeler Interests. Since November 2012, Wheeler Real Estate Investment Trust has been trading on NASDAQ as WHLR (the first REIT ever headquartered in Hampton Roads, and specifically, Virginia Beach, and the only REIT based in the Commonwealth of Virginia primarily focused on grocery anchored shopping centers). Wheeler Interests is a real estate acquisition, development, management and leasing company headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA. Since its inception in 1999, Wheeler Interests has acquired or built over sixty shopping centers in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Southwest regions in the United States, representing over 4,000,000 square feet of improved real property.

Jon’s real estate experience includes retail leasing, marketing, acquisition, development, financing, management and disposition of strip centers, neighborhood centers, community centers, power centers and mixed-use retail space in both the urban and suburban markets. A graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, Jon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1983. He holds or has held real estate licenses in the states of Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Texas and the District of Columbia.

An active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), Jon is also a founding member of Old Dominion University’s Industry Professional Advisors to the Center (IPAC) and on the Senior Advisory Board to E.V. Williams Center for Real Estate and Economic Development.

Current board memberships include The Wheeler Benefit Foundation as Chairman and The Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic Foundation as President.

Past board memberships include Horizons Hampton Roads as Chairman; Monarch Bank, City of Virginia Beach Advisory Board, Chairman; Virginia Beach Foundation (now Hampton Roads Community Foundation), board member; Norfolk State University’s Enterprise & Empowerment Foundation (E2F), board member; and Virginia Business Coalition on Health, board member.

Jon has fulfilled requests to speak across the state by organizations such as the International Council of Shopping Centers, the Cox Executive Business Series and the Urban Land Institute. He has been featured on MSNBC, WAVY TV, The Hampton Roads Show, HearSay with Cathy Lewis and Entrepreneur Magazine. His firm was highlighted in Men’s Fitness Magazine as one of the Top 15 Fittest Companies in America. He has written real estate columns for Inside Business and publications and newspapers such as The Virginian Pilot, Retail Traffic and Dealmakers.

In 2013 Jon received the Corporate Volunteer Leadership Award from VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads. Previous honors include the Entrepreneurial Excellence Award (Inside Business, 2009), Wellness in the Workplace Award from the Virginia Business Coalition on Health (2009) and the Hampton Roads Corporate Volunteer Excellence Award (2010, Good Corporate Neighbor – Small). Jon is also proud of his Associates – two of whom have been profiled by Inside Business for the “Women in Business Award” and the “Top 40 Under 40 Award.”

Recently, Jon was profiled in the inaugural issue of Inside Leadership (Influencing People, Business and Community), a publication produced by Inside Business and The Virginian Pilot.

Jon and his wife of 24 years, Kim Wheeler, created The Wheeler Benefit Foundation in 2008. WBF hosted an annual Dodgeball Tournament for 5 years with the proceeds benefitting local non-profit organizations. To date, 0,000 has been donated to such organizations as Horizons Hampton Roads, Samaritan House, The Virginia Aquarium and The Navy Seal Foundation.

Wheeler also supports such organizations as VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads, The Noblemen, Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), American Diabetes Foundation, Tidewater Scholarship Foundation (ACCESS), Big Brothers Big Sisters, American Red Cross, Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, Make A Wish Foundation, Children’s Miracle Network, Farm Fresh Charitable Foundation, The Neptune Festival, Monarch Bank Charities, Jewish Family Services of Tidewater, United Way (Tocqueville Society), Virginia Beach Sports Foundation, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Flagler College, University of South Carolina, One Fund Boston, Table Tennis Charity Foundation and The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Purple Stride Tidewater.

Current projects include The Kempsville Train Depot & Museum to be located at Fairfield Shopping Center (a Wheeler owned asset) to support autistic children and other areas in need with a specific focus on families and children. Now in its planning stages, The Wheeler Benefit Foundation will be the initial sponsor and coordinator.

M. Andrew Franklin

M. Andrew Franklin, Regional Asset Manager, Southeast


Mr. Franklin has over 17 years of experience in retail real estate and is currently Asset Manager where he oversees the property management and lease administration for select assets within the Wheeler portfolio.

Prior to joining Wheeler, Andrew was a Partner with Broad Reach Retail Partners where he ran the day-to-day operations of the company, managing the leasing team as well as overseeing the asset, property and construction management of the portfolio.

Additional previous industry experience includes serving as an Acquisitions Officer in the Midwest for Phillips Edison and Company, Principle at PPM Consulting, a boutique Asset Management and Brokerage Company in Maryland. He began his career at The Holladay Corporation, a mix-use development company in Washington, DC.

Mr. Franklin is a graduate of the University of Maryland, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance.

Blake C. Sheppard

Blake C. Sheppard, Asset Manager


Blake C. Sheppard joined Wheeler in May 2008. Blake currently oversees the Property Management and Lease Administration for the Southeast Wheeler Portfolio and personally manages a select 3rd party portfolio in Virginia. Prior to joining Wheeler, Blake worked closely with the Real Estate team at the Dollar Tree Corporate Office in Chesapeake, Virginia in Property Management. He has worked on both the Tenant and Landlord side of negotiations and has extensive knowledge of building systems and commercial construction. His background was formed as an early teenager in the Hardware and Building materials industry and has over 10 years’ experience in operations with a local hardware and building materials supplier. Due to his background, he can quickly analyze scopes of work on bids, for jobs of all sizes, which greatly affects the bottom line of his portfolio.

Blake is licensed as a real estate salesperson in Virginia, a designated CSM, and an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). Blake graduated from Christopher Newport University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance.

Jeff Parker

Jeff Parker, Director of Leasing


Jeff Parker, CCIM, is responsible for leasing operations and strategic direction over the growing portfolio of commercial assets which includes more than 60 grocery anchored shopping centers, totaling over 4,000,000 square feet of gross leasable area across 13 states.

Prior to joining Wheeler in 2014, Mr. Parker spent 10 years as Vice President in the regional office of CBRE, where he handled the leasing and sale of commercial properties. Mr. Parker comes to Wheeler from Dollar Tree Stores, Inc. where he spent five years as a Real Estate Portfolio Manager for the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. He was responsible for a portfolio of over 1,100 stores, created many key relationships throughout the industry, and gained extensive knowledge of retail operations.

Mr. Parker is a Graduate of Hampden-Sydney College. He is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He is a past honoree of the Inside Business “Top 40 Under 40” which recognizes outstanding young business people in the Hampton Roads Region of Virginia (Norfolk/Virginia Beach), and he serves on the Board of Directors of the Hope House Foundation. Mr. Parker earned his CCIM, (Certified Commercial Investment Member) designation in 2006. CCIM is a designation held by a worldwide group of 13,000 recognized experts in the commercial and investment real estate industry.

Angelica A. Beltran

Angelica A. Beltran, Principal Broker


Angelica Beltran began her career with Wheeler Real Estate in July 2001. She has over eleven years of experience and specializes in leasing grocery anchored shopping centers, strip centers and retail developments for Wheeler-owned assets and third party clients in Virginia and North Carolina. Angelica was instrumental in the successful re-tenanting of one of Wheeler Real Estate’s most valuable assets, Fairfield Shopping Center, a 239,000 sf community center in Virginia Beach. She also offers real estate services such as due diligence, lease negotiations, and market surveys for retail and restaurant tenants such as Virginia Beach-based eatery A.J. Gators Bar and Grill. Angelica is experienced with both independent tenants and national tenants including Starbucks, Food Lion, TJ Maxx, Do it Centers, Save-A-Lot, Rite Aid, Verizon, Jenny Craig, Famous Footwear, Papa Johns, Sentara Medical, Maxway, Family Dollar, Domino’s, Anytime Fitness, Bon Secours Medical, and Jimmy Johns to name a few.

Angelica is licensed as a real estate broker in Virginia and she is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and has served as a committee member for the ICSC Next Generation Program in Virginia Beach, VA. She is a 2004 Cum Laude graduate of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry coupled with a minor in Business Administration.


Denbeigh L. Marchant

Denbeigh L. Marchant, Senior Leasing Associate


Denbeigh L. Marchant joined Wheeler in June 2008 and is responsible for leasing a large portfolio of grocery anchored shopping centers throughout Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina and Virginia, as well as, land development and redevelopment projects. Denbeigh also specializes in third party Landlord and Tenant Representation throughout North Carolina and Virginia. Denbeigh is based out of the corporate headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Denbeigh’s retailer transaction experience includes: Winn-Dixie, Bi-Lo, Save-A-Lot, West Marine, Harbor Freight Tools, Farmer’s Furniture, Northern Tool, Stein Mart, Shoe Show, Starbucks, Planet Fitness, Snap Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, Metro PCS, Cricket Wireless, First Virginia, Sushi King, Buddy’s Home Furnishings, Fresenius Medical Care, Bon Secours, Firehouse Subs, Subway, Shoe Show, Papa John’s, and Little Caesar’s as well as working with retailers local to their area.

Denbeigh is a licensed real estate agent in North Carolina and Virginia. He is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) having served on the Virginia ICSC Idea Exchange Planning Committee and Virginia ICSC Next Generation Planning Committee. Denbeigh graduated Cum Laude from Old Dominion University and holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Geography with certifications in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Spatial Analysis of Coastal Environments.


Harold McAleb

Harold McAleb, Senior Leasing Associate


Harold McCaleb joined Wheeler in November 2016 and is responsible for leasing a large portfolio of grocery anchored shopping centers throughout South Carolina and Georgia. Harold is based out of the regional corporate office in Charleston, South Carolina. Harold brings 18 years of leasing experience to Wheeler, having leased properties all over the Southeast most recently for RCG Ventures of Atlanta, GA.

He has an in depth knowledge of TN, Southern KY, NC, SC, FL and GA markets and a wide network of industry contacts and retailers.

Harold’s retailer transaction experience includes: Conn’s Home Plus, Big Lots, Ollie’s Bargain Warehouse, Hobby Lobby, JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts, Dollar Tree, DXL Men’s Apparel, PetSmart, Tractor Supply, Shoe Carnival, Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, Save-A-Lot, Badcock Furniture, Harbor Freight Tools, Books A Million, Farmer’s Furniture, Northern Tool, Shoe Show, Hibbettt Sports, TJ Maxx, Kirkland’s, HHGregg, Family Dollar, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, Metro PCS, AT&T Wireless, Sprint Wireless, Fresenius Medical Care, DaVita, Cost Plus World Market, Ross, Goody’s, Five Below, Subway, East Coast Wings, Chuck E Cheese, Shoe Show, and Little Caesar’s and many other national, regional and local retailers.

Harold has extensive knowledge regarding construction, property management, redevelopment, acquisitions and lease negotiations. Mr. McCaleb is a Graduate of University of Texas RGV and Dallas Institute of Funeral Service. He is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). Mr. McCaleb is an active Volunteer Firefighter with Sullivan’s Island Fire Department. In 2006, while Mr. McCaleb was with Coldwell Banker Commercial Atlantic, he was awarded the Coldwell Banker Commercial Circle of Distinction Award.

Raymond L. Hicks

Raymond L. Hicks, Leasing Associate


Raymond L Hicks specializes in landlord representation and is responsible for leasing a portfolio of grocery anchored shopping centers in Kentucky, New Jersey, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. Raymond’s shopping center portfolio totals approximately 1 million square feet of gross leasable area including national tenants such as Kroger, Food Lion, Hobby Lobby, Kohl’s, and Michael’s.


Londre ‘Dre’ Hankins

Londre ‘Dre’ Hankins, Leasing Associate


Dre Hankins joined Wheeler in January 2015 and completed a multi-departmental internship through Wheeler University where he received training in Acquisitions, Development, Lease Administration, Leasing, and Property Management.

Dre currently specializes in landlord representation and is responsible for leasing a portfolio of grocery anchored shopping centers in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

Dre’s shopping center portfolio totals approximately 1 million square feet of gross leasable area including national tenants such as CVS Pharmacy, Family Dollar, Farm Fresh, Food Lion, Kroger, Lowes Foods, Marshalls, Office Max, Rite Aid, Subway, and TJ Maxx.

Dre is a licensed real estate agent in North Carolina and Virginia. He graduated Cum Laude from Norfolk State University and holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Finance.
